Songs and Stories from WA's Dramatic Maritime Past
Join us for our next WAGS social event on Tuesday July 19th 2011 at Unit 4, 48 May Street, Bayswater, WA 6933. The social events will now be advertised as Mix and Mingle (or M&Ms for short). These functions are a great opportunity to Mix and Mingle with other geni people while learning about related topics. And yes, you might even find some chocolate M&Ms!
WAGS members, Lesley Silvester and Mike Murray, present Strangers on the Shore, Songs and Stories from WA's Dramatic Maritime Past.
This will be an evening of stories, song and conviviality.
Western Australia's maritime history holds hundreds of fascinating stories of shipwreck, piracy, settlement, triumph and tragedy. There are heroes and villains, goodies and baddies.
Lesley spent a year trawling through the files of the WA Maritime Museum, and, inspired by many of the stories there, she and Mike wrote a series of songs and released them on a CD called ‘Strangers on the Shore'.
In this session, Mike and Lesley will tell some of these dramatic stories that inspired the songs, as well as singing them. And there will be a few choruses to join in!
The evening begins at 7pm with a glass of wine and some cheese and biscuits. Mike and Lesley will start their presentation approximately 7.30pm
Cost - Gold Coin donation
