Your Ancestors in their Social Context
The 13th Australasian Congress will be Adelaide, South Australia from 28th - 31st March 2012. The program offers a fantastic line-up of International and Australasian speakers - 66 presentations over 4 days! Presentations will cater for the research needs of the family historian, whatever level you are working at. By attending you will come away with a wealth of knowledge and a network of genealogical friends.
The topics are too numerous to mention them all here. The complete program can be found on the Congress website The Congress is not just about attending lectures. There will be time to talk to other delegates from societies around Australia and New Zealand. A highlight will be meeting some of the people you have previously only known as authors of books. Speakers will be available throughout the Congress, so there will be plenty of opportunities to chat with them over a cup of tea.
There will be a Welcome Reception on the Tuesday prior to the official opening of the Congress. This will be a good opportunity to meet fellow historians, delegates and those who have attended previous Congresses.
The Congress Dinner is a more formal occasion, and will offer the chance to catch up with speakers and friends over a convivial meal. The Exhibition Hall will have approximately 50 trade stands, from a variety of commercial organisations, as well as family and local history societies.
A number of bus tours have been organised - one prior to the start of the Congress will visit archival repositories. Also, two tours to significant tourist sites in the Barossa Valley and the South Coast, mainly for partners who are not attending the Congress; and a half day tour to two of Adelaide's main cemeteries.
This is an opportunity too good to miss! The Congress is held every 3 years and this one is very close to home. There will be a number of WAGS members and Affiliated Society members attending. Now is the time to act, look at Congress website now!
The Congress will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre and is hosted by the South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society Inc [under the auspices of AFFHO & with the support of the Fleurieu Peninsula & the Adelaide Northern Districts Family History Groups].
