Family History Open Day 5 August
National Family History Week (NFHW) will be held 27 July - 5 August this year. The NFHW website contains information about events throughout Australia. The Western Australian Genealogical Society (WAGS) will be involved in two major events.
- Sunday 5th August (10am - 4pm) - Family History Open Day
- 1st - 3rd August (9:30am - 3:30pm) - Presentations and display at the State Library of WA
Are you just beginning to find out about your family history or have you been doing research for a while but don't know what to do next? Come along to the Family History Open Day at our Library at Units 4-6, 48 May St Bayswater on 5th August and browse through our resources, do a bit of research or get help from one of our many volunteers.
You can find information relating to birth, deaths, marriages, cemeteries, occupation, military, shipping, census, plus a lot more - not only from WA but from all over Australia and from around the world!
There will be displays from all the WAGS Special Interest Groups (Computer, Convict, Enrolled Pensioner Guards, European, Irish, London and Home Counties, The Master Genealogist, North of England, Scottish, South Australian, Swan River Pioneers and Victorian).

The State Library of Western Australia (SLWA) will be celebrating National Family History Week in conjunction with WAGS from 1st to 3rd August. There will be tours, digital scanner training and talks on topics such as getting started with your family history, choosing genealogy software, pensioner guards, research in India, electronic historic newspapers, Ancestry, Findmypast and more.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced family history researcher you are sure to learn something new!
